Visiting Scholar Bert Ulrich (2020-2021) contributed a cover article on the legacy of Georges Méliès in science fiction filmmaking for Film International (Volume 20, Issue 3). The research for the article was conducted at Cambridge under the mentorship of John David Rhodes. Aside from science fiction, Bert also focused his research on Italian cinema and 1920s-1930s filmmaking. An article on Garbo and the cinematic close-up, which also proceeds from his tenure at Cambridge will be published later in the year.
Bert works at NASA as the agency’s film and multimedia liaison for projects ranging from The Martian to First Man as well as many documentary projects. At Cambridge Bert has also organised talks with filmmakers Roland Emmerich, Ted Melfi and screenwriter Josh Singer.
